HTTPS / TLS

SSL certificates: Trust + protection in one click.

SSL (technically TLS) encrypts data, verifies identity, and makes tampering harder. Result: more trust, stronger security — and a modern-looking website.

What does SSL actually do?

SSL (TLS) encrypts the connection between browser and server. That helps protect passwords, forms, logins and content against eavesdropping and manipulation.

Why you need SSL

Without HTTPS, sites often feel outdated or untrustworthy. With HTTPS you get:

🧷
User data protection
Traffic is encrypted — crucial for forms, login and checkout.
More trust
Browsers label HTTPS as secure. That improves clicks and contact rates.
⚙️
Technical foundation
Modern features (HTTP/2, secure cookies, PWAs) rely on HTTPS in practice.

HTTP & HTTPS

Left: unencrypted (readable). Right: encrypted (private).

Quick: HTTP Readable

Unencrypted: data is readable in transit and easier to tamper with.

Quick: HTTPS Private

Encrypted: data stays private and tampering gets much harder.

HTTP (not encrypted) Readable
• Data can be read on the way (e.g., Wi-Fi).
• Manipulation is easier.
HTTPS (encrypted) Private
• Traffic is encrypted (data stays private).
• Integrity checks reduce tampering.

How setup works

In four steps:

1
Choose an existing plan
2
Select the domain
3
Start automatic setup
4
Done

Certificates at VantaNet

VantaNet uses free Let’s Encrypt certificates for customers. These certificates must be renewed regularly because they expire after about 90 days. We notify you before expiration. If you don’t want Let’s Encrypt, you must buy/rent a certificate from your domain provider and provide it.

FAQ

❓ Is SSL only for shops?
No. A contact form or login is enough. Plus: HTTPS looks professional.
❓ Are there free certificates?
Yes (e.g. Let’s Encrypt). The key is correct setup + regular renewal (about every 90 days).
❓ What is “mixed content”?
Your page is HTTPS, but some assets still load via HTTP. That triggers warnings and can break features.
❓ Does SSL slow down a site?
Usually no — often better (e.g. HTTP/2). Clean configuration matters.
❓ I don’t want a free certificate — possible?
Yes. Then you need a certificate from your domain provider (buy/rent) and provide it. VantaNet will set it up correctly.

In short

SSL isn’t optional. It’s the baseline for trust and a clean technical setup.
